Miley Cyrus, The 1975 and Little Mix announced for Radio 1’s Big Weekend 2019 in Middlesbrough

BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend 2019 - the station’s annual flagship live music event - will be in Middlesbrough this May. Announced on Radio 1 Breakfast with Greg James, Radio 1 will be joined by Miley Cyrus, The 1975, Little Mix, Zara Larsson, Mabel and Khalid.

Taking place at Stewart Park on Saturday 25 and Sunday 26 May, an audience of 64,000 BBC Radio 1 fans can expect a huge line-up of over 50 artists comprised of the biggest UK and international artists.

Now in its 16th year, Radio 1’s Big Weekend kicks off the UK’s festival season, as well as taking artists to the cities that may not otherwise host a large scale event like Big Weekend, shining a light on the host city and providing a major boost to the local economy.

Following her recent collaboration with Mark Ronson on ‘Nothing Breaks Like a Heart’, award winning Miley Cyrus will be performing. As will Brit Award winners The 1975, who will play some of their classics, as well as new hits from their recently released album A Brief Inquiry Into Online Relationships. With four UK number ones and 13 UK Top 10’s under their belt, audiences can also expect show-stopping performances from Little Mix.

With 5 Grammy nominations and his most recent single Talk produced by Disclosure, Khalid will be performing, whilst pop sensation and chart hit Zara Larsson and Brit Award nominee Mabel will be entertaining crowds with their hottest tracks.

Miley Cyrus says: “I’ll be playing Big Weekend in Middlesbrough this year. Hope you’re ready to party, cause I’m bringing my fans their favourite songs and possibly some new ones. See ya in the summer!”

The 1975 say: “We’re delighted to come to the North East for the first UK show of Music For Cars. Radio 1 has been a massive part of our story over the years and this will be our fourth time playing Big Weekend. It’s great to be coming back, this time as headliners.”

Little Mix says: “We are so excited to play Radio 1’s Big Weekend and performing for our beautiful fans. Middlesbrough, we are coming for you!”

Zara Larsson says: “So excited to play Radio 1’s Big Weekend! It’s one of our first UK shows in a while and I can’t wait to play my new songs for you all! The line-up looks sick too! See you in Middlesbrough!”

Mabel says: “I’m so excited to be performing at Radio 1s Big Weekend again this year. The line-up is always sick, so to be a part of it is really amazing!”

Khalid says: “Can’t wait to see you all at Radio 1’s Big Weekend. So excited to play new music for all you guys - hope you’re all ready for this new era.”

Greg James, Radio 1 Breakfast Show Host says: “The listeners are the most important thing about Radio 1 and we think they’re brilliant. Without them, we’d just be a collection of weirdos talking to ourselves in a room so we like to say thanks by pulling in some of the world’s biggest artists to do an enormous music festival for them. We traditionally take Big Weekend to a part of the UK that doesn’t normally get these sorts of events and I can’t wait to take some of the best acts on the planet to Middlesbrough."

Ben Cooper, Controller, BBC Radio 1 says: “Mix together the BBC, the biggest artists in the world and the listeners of Middlesbrough and you’re going to have an amazing Radio 1’s Big Weekend - I can’t wait.”

Dave Budd, Mayor of Middlesbrough says: “The announcement that the 2019 Radio 1 Big Weekend is coming to Stewart Park is a major coup for Middlesbrough - this really promises to be a Brilliantly Boro Big Weekend and we look forward to welcoming the world to Middlesbrough.”

Last year, as part of The Biggest Weekend - the BBC’s biggest ever celebration of music across four sites in four nations - Radio 1 travelled to Singleton Park in Swansea, where they hosted performances from Taylor Swift, Ed Sheeran, Florence & The Machine, Sam Smith and Thirty Seconds to Mars.

The full line-up and ticketing information will be announced on Radio 1 in the coming weeks.

Live sets from Radio 1’s Big Weekend will be broadcast on BBC Radio 1 all weekend. All performances will be available to watch live and on demand on Radio 1’s BBC iPlayer channel.

TRAILER : Hollywood Casting Couch exposed in “Rocking the Couch”

One of the most important releases of the year, ROCKING THE COUCH, now available On Demand from Avail Films.

Hollywood titans, Harvey Weinstein and Bill Cosby, have been brought to their knees by the #MeToo movement. But they did not invent Casting Couch. The term casting couch has existed for decades. But in 1992, a case against talent agent, Wallace Kaye, was brought to court by 12 unknown actresses, who braved the loss of their careers, their privacy, and their Hollywood dreams. They stepped forward, despite the advice of their union, and brought the case to the police. Against all odds, they won, and no one listened.

This documentary explores the case and asks, “Why didn’t we hear about this?” More importantly, why didn’t Hollywood learn from this case? For, if they had, maybe the Cosbys and the Weinsteins would have learned as well, and these sexual exploitations could have been prevented.

“Those who ignore history are bound to repeat it.”

From writer/director Minh Collins, produced by Andrea Evans, Minh Collins, and Jerry Sommer, and starring Lauren Anastasi-Peter, Ikon Barenbolm, Alana Crow, Jennifer Durst, Tiffani Fest and Sadie Katz, ROCKING THE COUCH is now available on Amazon US and Amazon UK.

Live the Dream with Legacy of Discord

We all need somewhere to call home. YOOZOO Games and GTarcade have recognised this need and now players of Legacy of Discord can start picking out furniture and maybe even find a few friends to share the housework.

Players can now invite and place certain NPCs into their sanctuary. They can also select from three available home styles and choose furniture. Through daily resource runs and a bit of interaction with friends they can train their pets within their sanctuaries to receive special combat boosts. Or simply visit friends in their homes to get additional resources — they can even gift items to help in-game chums furnish their dream home.

Like most homes, there’s the occasional ‘domestic’ to sort out. In Guardian’s Sanctuary this comes, typically enough, in the form of a hobgoblin fight. At 7:45pm each night some sanctuaries will be visited by a hobgoblin. Players can gain additional resources by defeating this unwanted visitor and  restoring peace and tranquility to their homes.

Legacy of Discord has also seen a wide range of improvements recently, with a numerous new items added to shops; as well as a new chapter unlocked in the main dungeon. There’s also some bug squashing and plenty more to keep players happy when they’re not sitting at home with their feet up.

RuneScape launches stunning conclusion to the Elite Dungeon Trilogy

Monday 25th February 2019, Cambridge, UK – RuneScape is calling on all seasoned adventurers to plunge into the underwater depths of The Shadow Reef, the third and concluding chapter of the game’s Elite Dungeons storyline, which launches today. Set in the ancient sunken temple of Ulthven Kreath, players face a hostile environment full of aggressive enemies before a chilling encounter with The Ambassador, a malevolent creature that dwells in the deep.

The Elite Dungeons are a series of three dungeons with an over-arching storyline, where players can buddy up or go solo in raid-like experiences, and are available to all RuneScape members.

As with the previous two Elite Dungeons, The Shadow Reef includes a story mode option, enabling players to focus on the unravelling narrative, with enemies having reduced health and combat strength, although reward drops only come from boss encounters.

Dave Osborne, RuneScape Lead Designer, said:

“Last summer, we created Elite Dungeons to combine engaging storylines with raid-like dungeon experiences. The Shadow Reef brings that questline to an epic conclusion, as players uncover the secrets beneath the inky waters of Gielinor, and experience an unforgettable encounter with The Ambassador, which will push players to the limit, whether adventuring as a team or solo.

“We know that The Shadow Realm appeals to a wide variety of RuneScape players, whether that’s the ‘skillers’ who are looking to level up  their combat skills, the ‘questers’ who love delving into adventures, or the ‘challengers’ – players that are seeking to overcome the dangerously deadly dungeon, to secure the best rewards possible in the fastest time possible.”

The first parts of the trilogy, The Temple of Aminishi and Dragonkin Laboratory, were both released during summer 2018, and had to be completed chronologically by players. However, with today’s launch of The Shadow Reef, the three Elite Dungeons can be completed in any order, removing a barrier for high-level players looking to test their combat skills and meet with The Ambassador.

Interview with Perry Blackshear, director of The Rusalka

Ahead of the UK premiere of THE RUSALKA at Arrow Video FrightFest Glasgow 2019, director Perry Blackwater tells us about the joys of collaboration, his love of fairy tales and finding romance in horror.

Can you give us some fun facts about your background and why you wanted to direct?

Our family got a little webcam when I was I think 11. It could record at about 5 frames per second, and it had a 6-foot cord from the computer so your camera setup options were pretty limited. And I just loved it so much. I made probably hundreds of minor epics in that one room. I think my most infamous was about a toy panther who defeats a trio of evil triceratops. My parents still believe it’s my best work.

How did you gather together your repertory company of producers/actors Evan Dumouchel, MacLeod Andrews, and Margaret Ying Drake, the trio also involved in THEY LOOK LIKE PEOPLE as well as THE RUSALKA?

We made They Look Like People with just what we could save up from our jobs, it was a very intimate operation. But we promised ourselves we would be proud of what we made, and proud of how we did it. Our team really fell in love with each other as collaborators, and it was always in my mind that I would write another movie and we would produce it together. They Look Like People was still doing the festival circuit, but we were hungry to keep making work that we cared about with people we really liked.

You described THEY LOOK LIKE PEOPLE as a psycho bromance about love, friendship, and nightmares.  What’s your log-line for THE RUSALKA?

Oh God, did I describe it as a psycho bromance!? Haha well, I suppose that’s not a million miles off. Going off my previous template, then, The Rusalka is a supernatural romance about love, murder, and a water demon. Someone called it Let The Right One In by way of the French New Wave, which made me smile.

Your choice of THE RUSALKA as your follow-up feature comes from your love of pagan European fairy tales. Can you explain some more?

I grew up obsessed with myth and fairy tales, and Slavic mythology has always been especially dark and mysterious to me. The Rusalka seemed like such a perfect character and something I hadn’t seen before in a feature film. She’s someone cursed to hurt people forever, but it’s not her fault. In fact, she’s only in this position because someone betrayed her.

There are three years between the movies, what were you doing during that time, especially when you say you write very quickly?

Haha, I was working full time, unfortunately. I also wrote and directed another movie! I was editing the two simultaneously for a while, which I am first to admit is not 100% ideal…

You’ve said your directing inspirations are Paul Thomas Anderson and Ingmar Bergman, both easily discernible in your work so far?

I really admired PT Anderson, especially when I was in college because he would write for his actors, he was so actor-centric. It seemed like he loved to make movies with a small group of rotating collaborators, friends and good colleagues. As far as Ingmar Bergman, I am always startled by his emotional intelligence and the depth of his understanding. Through A Glass Darkly is one of my favorite films. But what really sold me on him and his process was one behind the scenes clip I saw of Winter’s Light, where there was rattling on the audio. And the footage is of the entire crew, including the actors, trying to figure it out all helping each other, all being jovial, building something together. The cast and crew were small, maybe twelve people. What a dream.

THE RUSALKA couldn’t be further from THE LITTLE MERMAID fables of old, or even SPLASH – you deliberately go for the harder mythic aspects, hurting the person you love not because you have to, but because you want to?

What I loved specifically about the Rusalka myth was this idea that it was similar, and yet distinct from Vampires. A vampire drinks your blood because if it doesn't it will die. A vampire NEEDS to kill you. A Rusalka just REALLY WANTS to kill you. So you get the opportunity to watch that struggle. She is divinely compelled. I thought, what a wonderful way to talk about love, co-dependency, addiction, obsession, it was just so rich. Can she fight who she is? If she can’t, what does that mean?

Why did you make Evan’s character Tom mute? Did he find that difficult to play?

In the original story of The Little Mermaid and many of the old tales that share similar DNA to The Rusalka, the mermaid/Rusalka/spirit is often mute. I wanted to reverse this, to put a new spin on a fairy tale. Evan was amazing, in the dialogue I didn’t write the hand gestures or how he would communicate, I just wrote the dialogue in and he figured it out! It’s always difficult to play characters whose lives fall outside of your own personal experience, but Evan quickly found Tom’s emotional core, and then he just knocked it out of the park.

Interesting that both Evan and MacLeod play similar characters to their roles in THEY LOOK LIKE PEOPLE?

It’s funny you should say that as I think they were actually quite different! For example, I would say Christian was a skinny loser who went crazy aggro and became a beefcake because of all sort of insecurities about himself and his manhood. Tom is a religious innocent who has shut himself off from life because of a childhood accident. Wyatt was a caretaker, a medic who lost his adulthood to a failed relationship while developing a mental illness, his fundamental drive is to help and protect others but his mind and history stand in his way. Al is a methodical man consumed by grief and anger, to the point where he barely knows who he is. I do think, however, that the intimacy of our sets and the fact that I write for these actors does mean that while many things shift, certain personality traits can carry over in some way. There may be more parallels than even I realize. And they certainly look pretty similar!

You’ve just completed your third movie, which you say is a brother/sister supernatural tale. Any more details?

Hmmm, it is very mysterious, this is true! I can confirm it is a brother-sister story, and it is supernatural. And it is the siblings against a demon, on the streets of New York at night. And it’s very dark.

THE RUSALKA is showing at the Glasgow Film Theatre on Sat 2 March, 10.45am, as part of Arrow Video FrightFest Glasgow 2019.  Perry Blackshear will be attending.

The film will be released as THE SIREN, courtesy of FrightFest Presents, on May 20, 2019.

“It’s great news for independent developers and publishers that Epic has opened up these incredible opportunities for its partners,” said Leo Zullo, Managing Director, Wired Productions. “Success in this industry is hard to come by and the industry relies on each other to drive progress. Great games need great developers, who need great tech, who need great publishers, who need great distribution opportunities."

Carlo Ivo Alimo Bianchi, CEO & Founder, Storm in a Teacup, said: “Our relationship with Epic and the decision to use the Unreal Engine have provided fantastic opportunities for our studio, enabling a greater creative freedom and the ability to double-down on quality for our games. To launch on the Epic games store feels like the perfect next step and we are delighted that our partnerships with both Wired Productions and Epic Games will help propel Close to the Sun to achieve our ambitions.”

Close to the Sun will launch on PC and console in 2019.

BBC Comedy announces six part series for BBC One - The Goes Wrong Show

BBC Comedy, Mischief Screen, Big Talk Productions and Lionsgate UK, have announced a brand new six-part series for BBC One.

The Goes Wrong Show is commissioned by BBC’s Controller of Comedy Commissioning Shane Allen, and Charlotte Moore, Director of BBC Content and is based on the The Play That Goes Wrong, the internationally successful, award-winning Mischief Theatre brand.

The Goes Wrong Show, will be written by and star the original founding Mischief Theatre members; Henry Lewis, Jonathan Sayer, and Henry Shields alongside Nancy Zamit, Charlie Russell, Bryony Corrigan, Greg Tannahill, Dave Hearn and Chris Leask. With their unique brand of physical theatre, the Mischief team will bring all aspects of their globally recognised talents to the television version which will be filmed in front of a live studio audience.

The series sees The Cornley Drama Society undertaking another (overly) ambitious endeavour, held back by prolific over-actor Robert Grove, the screen-hogging Sandra Wilkinson and the artistically mistrusted Dennis Tyde. Six brand new, hand-crafted, half hours of theatrical catastrophe include the gripping courtroom drama 'A Trial to Watch' and World War II spy thriller 'The Pilot' (which is not the pilot). The Goes Wrong Show is simply Mischief’s biggest disaster yet.

Henry Lewis, co-writer and co-founder of Mischief Theatre, says: “Ever since we first began to make things go wrong all the way back in 2012 it has been a dream of ours to bring a series based on this joyful brand of humour to the screen and so when the BBC commissioned The Goes Wrong Show it was a dream come true. We’re so grateful for this incredible opportunity and we can’t wait to get started on making some truly terrible programmes. We are still very short on equipment - if you have a camcorder we can borrow (in any condition) please do fax us.”

Mischief Screen is part of the recently launched Anthology Studios, part of the Anthology Group founded by Bob Benton and run by Hilary Strong. They are working on The Goes Wrong Show with Lionsgate who will be representing the show globally and separately with YTD HK which has acquired Chinese rights directly from Mischief Screen.

Mischief Screen CEO and Executive Producer, Hilary Strong, says: “Mischief has long demonstrated that they have a unique voice in comedy, with a hugely successful global theatre brand, as well as a growing reputation in television. Their particular style of physical humour transcends boundaries in a way that most humour simply cannot do and I am thrilled to be working with them and our partners Big Talk, the BBC, Lionsgate and YTD HK.”

Kenton Allen, CEO and Executive Producer, says: “Everyone at Big Talk Towers have been huge fans of the brilliant comic inventiveness of Henry, Jonathan, Henry and Team Mischief for a very long time, so we are delighted to help them make an entire BBC television series go wrong. The scripts are truly terrible and we haven’t got a clue what we’re doing, so what’s the worst that can happen?”

Shane Allen, Controller of BBC Comedy, says: “The two Christmas specials we’ve backed showed a huge audience appetite for this ensemble’s superbly inventive brand of family friendly comedy. BBC One has a unique role for viewers as the country’s sole provider of mainstream British comedy and it’s particularly gratifying to also be the only UK broadcaster still flying the flag for the studio sitcom with these fast rising stars.”

Lionsgate will sell global television rights mirroring the co-partnership the studio had with the BBC on the award winning, critically acclaimed Motherland. Of the partnership CEO Zygi Kamasa says: “Lionsgate has a reputation for supporting and partnering with the best of British talent. We’re thrilled to partner with our friends at the BBC again on this superb project. We’ve admired all that the Mischief team do for such a long time making this a dream-come-true collaboration.”

Filming begins March 2019 in Manchester.

First look images for upcoming four-part drama Chimerica

Produced by Playground (Wolf Hall, Howards End, Little Women), Lucy Kirkwood’s Chimerica is a powerful and timely four-part thriller about a photojournalist who tries to salvage his career when he’s accused of doctoring one of his award-winning photographs. The series is due to launch on Channel 4 in the spring.

SAG Award-winning Alessandro Nivola (American Hustle, A Most Violent Year, Face/Off) stars as Lee Berger, a dedicated American photojournalist and passionate idealist who has lost his way after years of working in war zones while trying to live up to his early success with the electrifying photograph he took as a young man nearly 30 years ago in Tiananmen Square – an image of a man in a white shirt, a carrier bag in each hand, standing up to the might of the Chinese military, referred to as the Tank Man. But when accusations of fake news are levelled against him, his world falls apart. Desperate to reclaim his credibility, and remember the photographer he used to be, Lee sets out on a journey to find the Tank Man, convinced he is alive and well and living in New York City.

Emmy Award winner Cherry Jones (Transparent, The Handmaid’s Tale, 24) stars as Mel Kincaid, Lee’s old friend and colleague, fiercely intellectual and recently sober. Oscar, BAFTA and Golden Globe-nominated Sophie Okonedo (Hotel Rwanda, The Hollow Crown, The Slap) stars as Tessa Kendrick, a corporate-minded Market Analyst who crosses Lee’s path in China and at home in NYC. Oscar winner F. Murray Abraham (Homeland, The Grand Budapest Hotel, Inside Llewelyn Davis) stars as Lee’s long-time mentor, News Editor Frank Sams, and Terry Chen (Jessica Jones, Unreal) is Zhang Lin, a friend from Lee’s time abroad in China. Young Lee Berger is played by Ty Simpkins (Jurassic World, Iron Man 3).

Based on Lucy Kirkwood’s critically-acclaimed and Olivier Award-winning stage play, Chimerica is a powerful 4 x 60’ thriller that explores not just the relationship between East and West, but also some of the most urgent issues affecting society today. Set against the run-up to the 2016 US Presidential election, the original play has been updated to reflect the giddying political changes of the last two years. The fictional series will bring into even sharper focus vital issues such as fake news, the criminalisation of political protest, our growing ease with the manipulation of fact and image, and the battle between present and future superpowers.

Chimerica is directed by BAFTA nominee Michael Keillor (Line of Duty, Strike, Critical), with Colin Callender and Sophie Gardiner as Executive Producers. Lucy Kirkwood also serves as an Executive Producer. The producer is Adrian Sturges (Fearless, The Enfield Haunting, The Disappearance of Alice Creed).

Interview with Zach Lipovsky & Adam Stein

Ahead of the UK premiere of their sensational directorial feature debut FREAKS at Arrow Video FrightFest Glasgow 2019, Zach Lipovsky and Adam Stein talk about making impossible ideas believable, the challenges of fatherhood and casting Bruce Dern.

This is your debut feature. How did the two of you meet and decide that this was the film you wanted to make?
ZACH: We met on a reality competition show called On The Lot, which was produced by Steven Spielberg. It was basically an American Idol-type show that aired on Fox. We were competitors who had to make a new short film every week, and we became close friends and collaborators afterwards.

We worked separately as directors for a few years, but kept coming back together, finding the nature of our collaboration very rewarding. We were struggling to find films that represented our taste, so we decided to write one that would show the world the kind of movie we like to make.

When writing the script, did you always visualise it as a genre movie? Were there any particular influences in that area?
ADAM: When we were writing, we knew that fantastical things would happen in the story, but we didn’t try to fit into the box of a particular genre. We wanted the movie to feel real, intimate... so we knew the story would capture small moments of the family relationships and go deep on the emotions. At the same time, we knew we wanted to tell the story from Chloe’s childlike perspective, so we were more focused on how she was discovering the world and how it felt to her. When things are scary for her, the movie feels more like a horror movie and when she’s full of wonder it starts to feel more like a Spielberg Amblin movie… so the mix of genres is motivated from her character journey.

What personal experiences did you bring to the writing process? I’m thinking, in particular, of the strong coming-of-age narrative and the child-parent dynamic driving the film throughout.
ZACH: The genesis of the story idea was inspired by watching Adam's son grow up. We got to see him observe and interpret the world for the first time. To him, impossible ideas were believable, and normal things were terrifying. We thought it'd be fascinating to capture that perspective in a genre film.

ADAM: As a new dad, I often felt incompetent and unprepared. I used to worry and imagine how I could possibly do this alone, without my awesome wife. I took a lot of classes and had great mentors, and with that support network I became a better father. But we imagined Emile’s character as a father who never had the benefit of that support network. Before the start of the film, his character had been an outcast and a criminal, on the run for most of his life. So now, because of the way the world has isolated him, he’s raised Chloe with no training, not even a book about parenting. We wanted to show his primal protectionist instinct has been twisted into paranoia and a hair-trigger temper, but underneath it all he’s got deep love for her.

It’s tempting to think that the film taps into the current socio-political upheaval in the US and, in particular, the paranoia of ‘outsiders’ appearing to threaten the dominant majority. Was there an intention on your part to shine a light on Trump’s America?
ADAM: The social commentary in the film is inspired by discrimination and violence in our world, where the tools of government can be used to destroy the lives of people who are considered Other. We weren’t directly talking about Trump’s America but we were inspired by the cycle of the discrimination and violence against “outsiders” that has recurred around the world and throughout history. We wanted to hold up a mirror to the way hatred and tribalism can create horrible outcomes.

It feels like the story has become even more relevant since we wrote it. When we were writing the movie, the idea that children would be torn away from their parents and detained by the government was science fiction, now a couple years later it’s happening in America.

ZACH: We tried to make it universal rather than concentrate on one single issue. Besides the Trump immigration issues that many people see, we were inspired by family histories of hiding children with non-Jewish during the Holocaust, the history of forced relocation of Native Americans to reservations, and the epidemic of police shootings of black men in America.

You call them ‘freaks’, which can be seen as a derogatory term, but they are in fact charismatic and powerful beings. Why did you choose that title?
When the world is set against something, bent on its annihilation, it can overwhelm any virtues. For the universe of the story, we wanted to find a word that we could imagine becoming a common slang word -- something with a bite that could be used by both adults and children as part of the common speech of this world. After we wrote the script, we experimented with lots of alternate titles but kept coming back to this essential word. Audiences also bring their own associations to the word "Freaks," which can help throw them off when they first sit down in the theatre.

The performances are all exceptional. Take us through the key casting decisions. In particular, what persuaded Bruce Dern to sign up for the ride?
ZACH: Thank you. The film is all about the performances, and we were very lucky to assemble this incredible cast. Bruce was one of the first cast members to sign on, he really connected to the father-daughter story, because of his own relationship with his daughter. He always looks for stories that have intensity and real grounded characters, and he told us he often doesn’t think science-fiction films have real voices. He hasn’t done a science fiction film since 1972 (Silent Running).

The whole film is is built around the the character of Chloe, and we knew we needed to find an incredible little girl. We built an audition process that was very different from the normal way of doing things. We did a lot of improvisation first to see if the girls could connect to real emotion from their lives, then we’d slowly push them towards the written scenes.

Lexy was the only young actress we found who could both improvise and stay on track with the scene, while staying completely connected to the intensity of the subject matter. She was also the only one who could immediately snap back after “cut” and return to being a normal healthy seven year old. She was a joy to work with.

The ending to the film suggests we haven’t seen the last of Chloe. Are there plans for a sequel?
ADAM: We have lots of ideas for what happens next and also for other rich stories in this world. We’re currently developing some of these ideas into a TV pitch. A sequel film probably only makes sense if people buy tickets to this one… So if people like the movie, we hope they spread the word to their friends!

2018 was a great year for the genre. What have been your outstanding film choices?
It WAS a great year! Love the variety of genre films that are being made, with such a range of tones. We really liked Prospect, which was an indie alien planet movie that had a great intimate style and rich world-building. Sorry To Bother You was such an incredible creative ride -- loved the unique tone and the unpredictability of what was around each corner. A Quiet Place was more traditional but still very well done. And Spiderman: Into the Spider-Verse! An explosion of wonder and visual creativity that had our jaws on the floor the entire time.

What’s next for you guys?
ZACH: We are writing a new film, as well as finishing a film for Disney. That one is the live-action adaptation of Kim Possible, which was a very popular animated series from ten years ago. Kim Possible comes out in February / March 2019.

ADAM: We hope to get the opportunity to make a lot more films like Freaks -  personal stories with lots of surprises.

FREAKS is showing at the Glasgow Film Theatre on Sat 2 March, 9.00pm, as part of Arrow Video FrightFest Glasgow 2019.  Zach will be attending.

Jade must set about rebuilding herself - and this is a gargantuan task.

Cast adrift from her young daughter, Jade finds solace in the hidden world of online liaisons where she uncovers the passion and connection she's craved in an often humorous and celebratory way. However, the actions of a stranger threaten to turn her life upside-down once more, and those around her are ill-equipped to halt her descent. As family life and friendships start to crumble, her lowest ebb proves the inspiration that Jade needs. Jade takes drastic action, finally finding her path back to her daughter and herself.
