Church Hill, TN - On his 24th birthday, Chase Owens defeated Ricky Morton at an NWA Smoky Mountain event at Volunteer High School in Church Hill, Tennessee on Friday to win his third NWA World Jr. Heavyweight Championship.
The legendary Morton ended Owens’ second championship reign on January 4 in Kingsport, TN. The match came about as a result of Owens turning on his former mentor in early 2013.
Owens first won the World Jr. Heavyweight title by defeating Zac Vincent and Matt Conard in the finals of a one-night tournament on October 13, 2012 in Kingsport. His first reign was ended by Jason Kincaid on August 10, 2013 but regained the title at NWA Invasion in Houston on October 18.
“Tonight was special,” the new champion said. “Any night you win a world title is a big night but after tonight I don't plan on losing this title ever again.”
