LITTLE JOE to be released in UK and Irish cinemas on 21 February 2020

LITTLE JOE, directed by Jessica Hausner (Amour Fou, Lourdes) and starring Emily Beecham (Daphne, Hail, Caesar!), Ben Whishaw (Paddington, Skyfall), Kit Connor (Rocketman) and Kerry Fox (Rare Beasts, The Dressmaker) will be released in the UK and Ireland on 21 February 2020 by the BFI. The film was selected to compete for the Palme d'Or at the 2019 Cannes Film Festival, where Emily Beecham was awarded Best Actress.

Alice, a single mother, is a dedicated senior plant breeder at a corporation engaged in developing new species. She has engineered a very special crimson flower, remarkable not only for its beauty but also for its therapeutic value: if kept at the ideal temperature, fed properly and spoken to regularly, this plant makes its owner happy. Against company policy, Alice takes one home as a gift for her teenage son, Joe. They christen it ‘Little Joe’ but as it grows, so too does Alice’s suspicion that her new creations may not be as harmless as their nickname suggests.

Developed with BBC Films and the BFI, LITTLE JOE is a Coop99, The Bureau and Essential Films production, in collaboration with ORF (Film/Television-Agreement) Arte and Coproduction Office, supported in production by the Austrian Film Institute, FISA, Vienna Film Fund, BBC Films, BFI (with National Lottery funding), Bayerischer Rundfunk, Medienboard Berlin Brandenburg and Eurimages.
