BBC Sport Audiences will be able to vote for their favourite World Sport Star via the BBC Sport website and votes can be cast from 7am on 4 December, with the votes closing for World Sport Star on 15 December at midday.
Also, for the first time ever, the general public will be encouraged to share their own sporting achievements for this year's Greatest Sporting Moment of the Year. Whether it's running a 5k in the living room on a treadmill, taking up a new sport to keep active in lockdown or entertaining the family with new sporting moves in the garden or inside the house, the moments can be shared on the BBC Sport website.
The BBC Sport website will show a selection of the moments submitted to celebrate all that has been achieved this year and they could also feature on our social media accounts or even in the show itself live on BBC One. Submissions can be made here, from 7am on 4 December until midday on 16 December.
Armand Duplantis
Swedish pole vaulter Armand Duplantis scaled new heights in 2020 - most notably in breaking the world record twice in a week in February. The second of those record-breaking leaps saw Duplantis vault an incredible 6.18m at the Indoor Grand Prix in Glasgow. In September Duplantis went on to set the highest ever outdoor pole vault mark of 6.15m at the Diamond League meeting in Rome.
LeBron James
Basketball legend LeBron James was named the most valuable player in the NBA Finals as he inspired his Los Angeles Lakers side to victory over the Miami Heat. In doing so, James became the first player in NBA history to be named Finals MVP with three different teams, while it was the franchise's first title for a decade. A fourth career title was especially poignant given that he and his team-mates had to overcome the tragic death of Lakers' legend Kobe Bryant in January.
Dustin Johnson
Dustin Johnson's stellar 2020 culminated in him slipping on a Green Jacket at the Masters for the first time with a record-breaking score. That capped off a year in which he regained his place as world number one, became the FedEx Cup champion and was named as the PGA Tour Player of the Year. He is only the fourth player in history after Tiger Woods, Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus to have won at least one PGA Tour title in each of his first 13 seasons.
Khabib Nurmagomedov
UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov took his perfect professional record to 29 wins and no losses with a resounding and emotional win over interim champion Justin Gaethje. The Russian bravely fought just months after the death of his father, coach and mentor Abdulmanap. Despite this, Nurmagomedov pulled off a trademark dominant victory. Straight after the bout he announced he was hanging up his gloves with his status as one of the greatest MMA fighters of all time assured.
Wendie Renard
French footballer Wendie Renard enjoyed another brilliant season with her all-conquering Lyon side. She captained them to Champions League glory for a fifth straight year and has been named in the UEFA squad of the season on all five occasions. Domestically, she played a key role as Lyon won their 14th straight league title and she also picked up her ninth Women's French Cup winner's medal. She was nominated for the UEFA Women's Player of the Year award for a record seventh time and is up for the Best FIFA Women's Player award.
Katie Taylor
Irish boxer Katie Taylor has continued her dominance of the sport in 2020 - defending her four world lightweight titles on two occasions. The London 2012 Olympic champion's first defence came in August when she beat Belgian rival Delfine Persoon. Her second title defences came in November, in which she outclassed the previously-unbeaten Miriam Gutierrez at Wembley Arena, a win which saw promoter Eddie Hearn call Taylor "the greatest to ever do it in women's boxing".
