“Knifeman” will be directed by Brian Percival, whose directing credits include “Downton Abbey” and “The Book Thief.” David Mackenzie will direct “Galyntine.” His credits include the films “Starred Up,” and “Perfect Sense.”
“These are both big, bold pilots that take us into worlds never before explored on television, and they needed the perfect directors to bring them to life,” said Joel Stillerman, AMC’s executive vice president of programming, production and digital content. “We feel like we found that in Brian and David, who both have such unique voices and visual styles and a true vision for the material.”
Set in 18th century London, “Knifeman” will focus on the untold story of a charming, arrogant, decorum-breaking genius who challenges societal norms to transform his visions into cutting-edge discoveries. A surgeon or “barber” in a time when blood-letting and praying was the norm, John Tattersal is a hard drinking, hard living man not afraid to push the boundaries of modern medicine, even if it takes digging up a few graves to do it. While he makes his living running an unlicensed operating theatre out of his residence, he picks up extra cash harvesting organs for his brother Julian, favorite son and prized physician of the St. Stephen’s teaching hospital. “Knifeman” is a fast-paced, entertaining romp filled with emotion, tackling dark themes with a biting wit. The pilot was written by Rolin Jones (“United States of Tara,” “Friday Night Lights,” “Weeds,” “Low Winter Sun”) and developed by Jones and Ron Fitzgerald (“Last Resort,” “Prime Suspect,” “United States of Tara,” “Friday Night Lights,” “Weeds”), both of whom will serve as Executive Producers. Media Rights Capital (“House of Cards”), Joshua Donen and Robert Zotnowski are also Executive Producers. “Knifeman” is inspired by the biography of John Hunter by Wendy Moore, “The Knife Man: Blood, Body Snatching and the Birth of Modern Surgery.”
“Galyntine” is a wholly-original vision of a world rooted in both fantasy/action adventure and science-fiction. Our pilot takes place in the future after a cataclysmic, technology-induced disaster has created a new society that eschews any form of technology. This catastrophic event leaves small numbers of survivors scattered around the planet, who are forced to adapt to isolation and unique challenges. “Galyntine” will explore a post-apocalyptic world in which humanity has evolved – with some strange detours. “Galyntine” is a man’s journey of discovery through a changed world and its mysterious people. The project is written by Jason Cahill (“Halt and Catch Fire,” “Fringe,” “Surface,” “Profiler”) and executive produced by Cahill and Greg Nicotero (“The Walking Dead,” “This Is The End,” “Oz The Great And Powerful,” “Transformers”). David Zucker and Ridley Scott will also executive produce through the Scott Free (“The Good Wife,” “Numb3rs”) first look deal with AMC.
AMC will premiere three new dramatic series in 2014: “Turn,” “Halt and Catch Fire” and the “Breaking Bad” spin-off, “Better Call Saul.”

On The Wrestlemania Dream Raffle: If someone is not a wrestling fan, they can just call and say I want to go to Disney, or they can say I just want to explore New Orleans for those four days and then go to Disney and give my (Wrestlemania) tickets to someone else. But I think we are getting some people who are supporting RAINN because it's a great cause. It's the nation's largest anti-sexual assault organization, and because it's a difficult subject to talk about, it's often pushed away, and by doing this raffle, it gets the word out there and it allows people to know that in addition to going to www.rainn.org for the raffle, there's a great place to reach out and get help if you need it. So it's a way for me to make a difference and in the last few weeks it's really picked up.
Why he made The Raffle so good: Part of the reason I made the raffle so good, to be honest with you, is because that for a while it didn't look like Mania was getting much enthusiasm, and had I known that the shows were going to turn around and the card was going to start shaping up to be so good, I probably wouldn't have added the Disney vacation, and who knows, I may not have got on the phone and asked Gabe Sapolsky if he wanted to participate. I talked to Court Bower from Ring Of Honor, and so they're in, and The WrestleCon... Everyone that I've spoken to, including Velvet Sky who's signing that unbelievable poster of her in The Yankees shirt, and I don't care if you hate The Yankees, this is the greatest baseball-themed poster of all time, and a hug from Velvet, and Diamond Dallas Page- it's really unbelievable- and lunch with Brie Bella and some divas, breakfast with me. Honestly, if you're not a fan of mine, and you want to call up and have me sleep in, I'll forgive you for it. There's just so much going on and it's only $10 to enter and little by little using the strength in numbers theory, we are really making a difference in helping out a great cause.
On Daniel Bryan at WrestleMania: It looks like it could actually happen. I think all of us, including myself, forgot what a great heel Triple H could be, because up until Monday night, especially going back a few weeks ago, when Daniel Bryan was asking for the match with HHH, it looked like he was trying to sell people something they weren't interested in buying and then after Monday night, which was a brutal, but really effective way to close the show, I think people see that this is the match you want to see and if he wins, and I'm going to hope he does, he's going to be hurting and so he'll be entering the main event at Wrestlemania as one of the great underdog stories in history. Who knows how it'll end, but the potential is there to have a really emotional scene. I for one, and as much as I like Stephanie McMahon as a person, I believe she needs to be slapped by a female, and I think there is a good candidate who would like to slap her. I just think there's a potential scenario for some great joy at the end of mania, and it's almost like really built up because I'd say since Hell in a Cell the shows haven't had that joyful feeling. So let's hope we all get that release again at Wrestlemania.

TV News: Tom Baker welcomes Doctor Who on Horror Channel - #WHOonHorror
“Horror is my very favourite genre,” he said today, “so I am thrilled the classic Doctor Who series have been picked up by the Horror Channel.
There was clearly a darker edge to my storylines, which I think brought a new dimension to the series. I remember hearing of the series scaring children – I wonder how the audience will react to the series today, all grown up.
He added: “The Horror of Fang Rock’ is one of my favourite stories so I’m looking forward to that one!"
Horror Channel has completed a deal with BBC Worldwide to broadcast 30 stories from the Classic series which ran 1963 to 1989 featuring the first seven Doctors, starting with William Hartnell and concluding with Sylvester McCoy.
Launching on Fri 18 April (Good Friday) the season begins with the very first story ‘An Unearthly Child’, and then leads into a special WHO ON HORROR weekend - a classic marathon featuring one story from each of the Doctors across the Easter weekend. There will then be weekday double-bills in daytime and evening slots with stories shown in chronological order starting on Easter Mon 21 April.

Beard Named NWA Director of Talent Relations

The National Wrestling Alliance has named James Beard to the position of Director of Talent Relations. Beard, a 2013 Texas Professional Wrestling Hall of Fame inductee, is a 30-year veteran in professional wrestling both in the United States and abroad, both in the ring as a referee and behind the scenes as a television writer, creative consultant, booker, talent agent and promoter.
“I am excited about the opportunity,” Beard said, “and look forward to working with the great NWA talent and promoters. I hope to bring about a more inclusive and helpful working relationship between all those who represent the NWA, both in the ring and in management.”
Working for well-known organizations such as World Class, USWA, SWS-WWF (Japan), GWF, NOW (Japan), NWA, Big Japan, CWF and many other promotions, Beard established a reputation as someone who is capable of handling talent relations and dealing with a variety of promotional issues, creative direction and television production.
A veteran of over 50 international tours around the world, Beard spent time working as a regular employee of three different Japanese companies, something no other foreign referee has ever done to this date. As a trusted talent booking agent/scout, his influence there helped introduce many American wrestlers to Japan for the first time.
In the past year, Beard has spent time working on TCW TV tapings and has been actively involved in working with NWA promotions as referee and as an advisor of creative direction.
He has recently released a book that includes stories from his career, an in-depth look at the World Class organization's rise and fall and the Von Erich family as well as an extensive and detailed explanation of the referee role. The book also features chapters about his relationships with some of the well known individuals that he has worked with and known in a long, multi-faceted career in Professional Wrestling.
"The NWA welcomes the official addition of James Beard to the team,” NWA President Bruce Tharpe said. “His extensive wrestling experience in the United States and Japan speaks for itself and we have found James to have the highest character and business integrity. Additionally he has great respect from all of our talent and licensee promoters. We look forward to working closely with him to develop the NWA brand worldwide in a variety of areas."
"James is a consummate professional who brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the National Wrestling Alliance,” added NWA Vice President Chris Ronquillo. “His responsibilities will include, but not be limited to, acting as a liaison between talent, licensed promotions and the NWA office.
