Cherry Healey gets under the skin of cosmetic surgery "Sex, Knives and Liposuction"

Cherry Healey is to front brand-new documentary series, Sex, Knives and Liposuction (3x60') for W, UKTV's premium entertainment channel. The series is also the first UKTV Original with award-winning production company BBC Studios' Science Unit.

The UKTV Original series will follow Cherry as she immerses herself in the contradictory, provocative, alluring and deeply divisive world of cosmetic surgery, and contemplates whether she herself should go under the knife on her personal mission to find body confidence.

Recently back on the dating scene, Cherry rails against the pressures women face to be perfect and worries for a future world of impossible perfection. However, inwardly, like many women, Cherry fixates on her body - especially the bad bits. Could a boob job bring back the bounce, a tummy tuck flatten the abs and lipo turn her into a supermodel? Cherry will ask whether plastic surgery can ever truly make you happy and if she should "go under the knife?".

Cherry Healey said:

I can't wait to work with W on this series, it's a subject very close to my heart. As a mother of a young daughter I am so aware of the world she is being brought up in while also, like every woman, facing my own body confidence worries. This series will hopefully help me address some of the pressures society throws at us as well as helping me personally consider what lengths I'd go to improve my face and body.

Sex, Knives and Liposuction has been ordered by Steve North, genre general manager for entertainment and comedy and Richard Watsham, director of commissioning. UKTV's deputy director of commissioning Hilary Rosen has commissioned the show for W and will act as executive producer on behalf of the broadcaster. The series will be produced by BBC Studios with Robi Dutta as executive producer.

Hilary Rosen added:

We are delighted to be working on our first collaboration with BBC Studios. Cherry is frank and fearless and I really look forward to seeing her journey in Sex, Knives and Liposuction, where she will immerse herself in all things plastic surgery while she decides whether or not to go under the knife. Cherry has a fantastic way of getting under the skin of contemporary issues. The series promises to unpick the complexities of body confidence faced by young women today.

Adam Collings, channel director of W, said:

Cherry fits perfectly on W and we are delighted to welcome her to the UKTV family. We pride ourselves on offering W's viewers curious and thought-provoking programmes and Sex, Knives and Liposuction absolutely delivers on that promise. It also provides a fascinating look at a truly extraordinary medical obsession.

Andrew Cohen, Head of BBC Studios' Science Unit said:

The world of cosmetic surgery is intriguing, often shocking and undoubtedly changing the way we all look at ourselves. I'm enormously pleased to be working with Cherry and W on a series that will definitely raise a few eyebrows.

Sex, Knives and Liposuction joins the slate of recently announced UKTV Originals set to air in 2018 on W, including Emma Willis: Delivering Babies and its first ever drama Flack, plus an imminent fourth series of compelling in-depth chat show, John Bishop: In Conversation With...
